Friction and magnetism

What is friction?

Friction is the force produced between two surfaces when they are rubbing against each other.

Examples of Friction

A bicycle’s brakes slowing the wheels when you press the brake levers.

Shoes gripping the ground when you walk or run.

A matchstick igniting when struck against a matchbox.

A car’s tires resisting motion against the road surface.

You might have noticed that it is difficult to push a box along a cement floor. This is because; friction acts between the surface of the box and the surface of the floor and makes it difficult to push the box along the floor.

effects of friction

Friction creates heat

Frction causes things to worn out

Examples walk everyday your shoes soles begins to workout from friction

Advantage and disadvantages of friction

Advantages1. Friction help is to walk without sliding our shoes sliding .2. Extra friction makes it difficult to move an object, such as sliding a box across the floor or walking in deep snow.Disadvantages1. It creates heat and can cause fire2. It cause things to worn out example walking on the road would worn out your shoe bottom3. Due to friction it’s harder to push something which will require more energy.

How to reduce friction?

1. Use lubricant or grease2.

Use ball bearing

3. Make a surface smoother

4. Use rollers or wheels

Ways to increase friction

Create a “rougher” surface

Press the two surfaces together harder.
